Some relations exist between different ratios which can be used to solve various problems.
Componendo -Dividendo
Illustration: If 3: 4 = 12 : 16 then find the value of x in the relation 3 : 12 = x : 16
Solution: to find the value of x we will use the relation
Here it is given that 3 : 4 = 12 : 16
The ratios can be written in fraction form as
Using the relation
we get
Converting them into ratio we get
3 : 12 = 4 : 16
So the value of x = 4
If 12: 11 = 36 : 33 then find the value of x in the relation 11 : 12 = 33 : x | |||
